GEELONG residents have returned more than 103 million drink containers through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme since its launch in November, earning nearly $11 million in refunds.
Now, local recyclers are being offered the chance to win an extra $10,000 through a new competition rewarding participation in the scheme.
The “Win A Million… Cents!” competition will run until June 15 and automatically enters customers into a prize draw for every 50 eligible containers returned in a single transaction.
Five winners across Victoria will each receive $10,000, with one winner also given a second $10,000 to donate to a registered community group, school or charity.
VicReturn chief executive Jim Round said the competition was a way to recognise public support and boost engagement.
“I’m so proud of how Victorians have embraced the scheme and the positive impact it is making on sustainability and community fundraising,” he said.
“The Win A Million… Cents competition is a fun way to thank Victorians for their support and to encourage even more participation.”
Statewide, more than 1.7 billion containers have been recycled through the program, delivering $170 million in returns to individuals and groups.
The competition is open to all Victorian residents.
