Charity event takes a hike to The Sands

January 4, 2018 BY
THE Sands in Torquay will host this year’s genU Hundred Hole Hike.

In its sixth year, the charity event on Monday January 15 will test fitness, golfing skill and sheer determination.

It will also help genU raise the funds it needs to keep the programs at the ABI Clubhouse East Geelong running, supporting the people who need them, people living with Acquired Brain Injury.

“After five years and $250,000 raised we are so pleased to be continuing with this event at our new home The Sands, Torquay in 2018,” genU Karingal St Laurence chief executive officer Mike McKinstry said.

“Make no mistake, this is no walk in the park – The Sands boasts an impressive course that will test the best golfers.”

Director at genU Patrick Lockie, who lives in Barwon Heads, said he was looking forward to taking part in his second Hundred Hole Hike.

Mr Lockie said he loved the event and especially the great camaraderie of the day.

He is also on top of the leaderboard for fundraising this year and raised a big amount last year.

Teams and individual golfers are welcome to register and compete for the glory of finishing and will, apart from raising a minimum of $1,000 to be eligible to tee off, also complete 100 holes of golf each (individual players).

They will also walk about 60 kilometres (or in Fitbit speak take 2.3 million steps) over 15 hours, in one day – walking all the way. To learn more about the golfers and their reason for taking on this challenge, plus make donations to their fundraising total, go to genu.org.au/event/hundred-hole-hike.

Businesses can Adopt a Golfer and show their support by encouraging the hikers with incentives to complete the 100.

Registrations for the 2018 genU Hundred Hole Hike are now open to all golfers ready to take on the challenge.
