Golfers enjoyed fantastic weather for a fun-filled day of golf, lunch and guest speakers all in aid of men’s health awareness.

THE 10th E.J. Whitten Charity Golf Day at Portarlington Golf Club on Friday attracted 120 golfers and raised more than $17,000 for men’s health.

Proudly supported by The Drain Man, golfers enjoyed fantastic weather for a fun-filled day of golf, lunch and guest speakers all in aid of men’s health awareness.

The event raised more than $17,000 and these funds will contribute to the Foundation’s education programs as well as research and treatment of prostate cancer, a disease which kills an estimated 66 men a week in Australia.

The winning team included local lads Henry Friday, Evan Kelly, Rob Pemberton and Michael Kelly, who said they had been trying to win this event for years.

The winning team had such an enjoyable day they said they were already planning to defend their title in 2019.

Special guests included AFL great and prostate cancer survivor David Parkin, along with Western Bulldog champion Brad Johnson, who both spoke with passion about the cause.

E.J. Whitten Foundation founder and executive director Ted Whitten thanked the Portarlington Community who had continued to support the day.

“The work of the Foundation could not occur without the generous support from volunteers such as the local lions club who cooked the delicious breakfast, and our generous sponsors, The Drain Man, PC Mobile Welding, Drysdale Carpet Court, Portarlington Beach Motel, Carlton United Breweries and the Portarlington Golf Club.”.

The event has now raised more than $90,000 for prostate cancer research and treatment.

Mr Whitten and the team concluded the community day with a barefoot bowls competition at the Portarlington Bowls Club, who showed their support to the foundation with a donation to the cause.
