Charli chosen to represent her state
LEOPOLD Football Netball Club are confident their own Charli Nicol will be as brilliant in the blue and white as she is in the green and gold when she represents her state later this year.
Charli, who attends Saint Ignatius College in Drysdale, has been selected for the School Sport Victoria 2019 Team Vic 15 & Under State Team, which will compete at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium in Queensland from July 20 to July 26.
Charli was up against about 200 others for a spot on the team, and said while her selection was a complete surprise, she was super excited about the challenge.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all… I was just doing it for the experience and to get my name out there,” she said.
Charli said she began her netball career with Barwon Heads for two seasons, before moving to Leopold, where she is now playing in her third season with the club.
Charli plays in the 15 & Under Division 1 team and was a key player in the 15 Division 1 2018 premiership team, where she dominated the defense end.
“We think Charli is a superstar!” former coach Rach Murray said.
“She is extremely coachable and very skilled, and has great height, but her agility and skill level is very high as well.
“She is the complete package and has all the attributes and she is a great kid too – we love her!”
The state team will be coached by Sarah Hogan from Yarra Valley Grammar School, and assistant coach Kiera Wills from Rowville Secondary College.
