Cheers to 40 years
THE Rotary Club of Ocean Grove has celebrated its 40th anniversary in style, with more than 100 people turning out to 360Q at Queenscliff to mark the occasion.
The October 12 event saw past and present members of the club come together to honour and celebrate the club’s achievements over the last four decades.
All 22 past presidents also attended on the night, with many sharing their fond memories of old blue light discos, construction of the Shell Road walking and cycling tracks and the extensive tree planting along the Rail Trail and Lookout Reserve.
Rotary Club of Ocean Grove’s first president, Wal Kelly said it was a joy to see how far reaching the club had become.
“You don’t have to look far to see someone who needs help.
“Rotary can always make it happen.”
Current president Lynne Carlson spoke on the evening and recounted the club’s recent achievements, including the Great Barwon River Duck Race, the Summer Markets, changes to the Ocean Grove Park playground and their Community Service Awards and Art Shows.
She also mentioned the club had allocated over $90,000 in charitable donations to groups and projects locally, nationally and internationally in the last twelve months.
Mrs Carlson said she’s felt privileged to be part of Rotary’s journey over its 40-year history.
“It was so wonderful to see so many people in attendance to celebrate our Club’s achievements.
“We were also honoured to have Rotarians from other Clubs with us on the night and thank them for their best wishes.”
