Children’s ocean swim series to come to Anglesea
THE Rock 2 Ramp swim in Anglesea later this month will include a leg of Australia’s first ocean swim series exclusively for children.
Banana Boat has partnered with SwimKids Series to present the series, held across six beach locations across the nation, including at Rock 2 Ramp at Point Roadknight on December 28.
Open to children aged between 7 and 10, Banana Boat SwimKids Series will host three swim distances at each event to encourage kids to get more water confident and enjoy the outdoors.
There will be a 100m swim for ages 7-8, 200m for ages 9-10 and 300m for ages 11-12. Ironman legend and Olympic swimmer Ky Hurst is this year’s official ambassador. Hurst was one of the first Australian athletes to gain selection for the 2019 London Olympics.
“We’re so lucky to have great weather here in Australia. The Banana Boat SwimKids Series is about encouraging Aussie kids to be active outdoors and be safe in and out of the water,” Edgewell Personal Care marketing manager Natalie Artinian said.
“Teaching kids from an early age about sun safety is so important especially in the hot Australian climate. Banana Boat are proud to be part of the Series and encourages the younger generation to have fun in the sun whilst staying protected.”
SwimKids Series founder Scott Rice said the events would give kids the chance to learn how to improve their ocean swimming skills, complete a challenge, meet new friends and have a wonderful day at the beach with their family.
“Partnering with Banana Boat this year is about encouraging Aussie kids to set a goal and achieve it, make new friends and enjoy the wonderful Australian outdoors in a safe environment.”
The first race in the series will be held at Tasmania’s Seven Mile Beach on Sunday, December 16.
