Chris a champion of fundraising

January 9, 2019 BY

Chris Hall says he is honoured to be one of eight people from across the state to receive a Pride of Australia Award.

LEOPOLD’s Chris Hall is on a mission to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Last month, Chris was awarded a Pride of Australia Medal for living a life full of passion and commitment to causes and prevailing through physical adversity.

The awards, now in their 14th year, highlight the tireless work of parents, friends and strangers to make Australia a better place for everyone.

Confined to a wheelchair (not MND related), Chris has already raised $25,000 for MND Victoria and has decided to wheel 50km a month around his area in a bid to raise more.

Chris’ inspiration to try and help find a cure came from a work colleague, Jenny, who passed away from MND in November 2015.

“Jenny is the main reason I am doing this,” Chris said.

“Jenny was a nurse at Barwon Health and I got to know her fairly well.

“Every year when flu vaccinations came around Jenny would always have a good chat with me and see how I was doing.

“Jenny unfortunately passed away after a 14-month battle with this horrible disease.

“After I found out that Jenny had MND, I thought to myself ‘what is MND?’ so I did some research and I was horrified to learn there was no treatment or no cure.”

Chris is constantly coming up with new ways to raise money, and is a big supporter of Rock Off
MND, a live music event at Deakin University in March that aims to raise much-needed funds for MND research and to increase community awareness.
