POTENTIAL gaps in Portarlington’s community facilities are being investigated by the City of Greater Geelong and the community is being asked for its input.

The Draft Community Facilities study now available for public comment includes considerations of community meetings spaces, library services, early years services for babies, toddlers and children as well support facilities for social, cultural and wellbeing programs for all ages.

The study is the result of city engagement on the issue earlier this year coupled with the results of the 2021 Census.

“The city has been discussing issues and opportunities with a Community Reference Group over recent months,” Bellarine ward Councillor Jim Mason said.

“We want this study to reflect the needs of the Portarlington community which is why we will continue to encourage residents to provide feedback and share ideas on the draft study.”

Mayor Trent Sullivan said that while Portarlington enjoys a range of community spaces, “this study has identified opportunities to improve the function and use of facilities in the town.”

“These facilities are fundamental to community wellbeing, and we want to hear from the community about what our study recommends for the future of these facilities.”

A Have Your Say page has been set up by council and a community drop-in session is planned so residents can contribute to the final study.
