City to run free workshops for small businesses
SMALL business owners looking to strengthen their online presence and broader practise are being encouraged to take advantage of a range of free workshops being held by the City of Greater Geelong.
The City’s Economic Development Team are set to host upcoming sessions at their Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct to promote investment and drive economic growth for businesses through free advice, initiatives and funding opportunities.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said the Council were proud to be small business friendly and able to provide practical and in-depth support to local businesses.
“With more than 21,000 small businesses in our region making up around 97 per cent of all businesses, we estimate that they inject around $7 billion into our local economy,” Mayor Sullivan said.
“Small businesses are a huge economic driver of Greater Geelong and their success is important to our vision for a clever and creative future.
“I encourage small businesses to make the most of the opportunities on offer from Council, whether that be a free workshop or mentoring, training, networking or advice on permits.”
Last year, the Economic Development Team at the City supported more than 3,000 small businesses via COVID business support, business concierge services, mentoring programs and events.
Local businesswomen Candice Perus, owner of online retailer Nest Seven, said the support she received from the Economic Development Team at the workshops had been invaluable.
“The $5,000 COVID-19 Business Recovery Grant I received helped keep Nest Seven financially afloat when the market was flooded with businesses transitioning to online operations during the early stages of the pandemic,” Ms Perus said.
“A Business Support voucher for grant writing services and promotions through the City’s It’s Our Backyard Campaign and a Spotlight on Business social post have also really given my business a boost.
“My interactions with the Economic Development team have given me a sense of community and the feeling of being supported, which has really helped with my confidence over the past six years.”
The next free workshop will be held on May 27 and focus on Strengthening Business Practices.
