CLEANER Coast is inviting people to take some time out of their weekend to help clean up the community.

The not-for-profit group was founded in 2019 and has since held several clean-ups along the Surf Coast as well as in the Bellarine.

The group will be holding its first virtual clean-up on September 26-27.

Cleaner Coast Event Coordinator Kate Griffin said this will operate differently to previous clean-ups.

“In these crazy times, we look to the Internet to keep us connected and that’s exactly what A Cleaner Coast wants to do.”

Participants are being encouraged to share photos of the rubbish they collect online using hashtag #coronacleanup and tagging @acleanercoast.

There will be a chance to win prizes for people who collect the most rubbish, including a box of wine from The Hidden Sea and some products from Mia May Skin Care.

A Cleaner Coast will also donate $1 for every kilogram of rubbish collected to an environmental organisation. The person who collects the most will be able to select the organisation that receives the funds.

Ms Griffin said the group aims to have people both aid and enjoy their local environment.

“We aim to conserve and restore coastal ecosystems whilst celebrating communities and our natural environment. We will always strive for this.”
