Clifton Springs boardwalk design under way

July 24, 2019 BY

Bellarine MP Lisa Neville and DCSCA committee members Mike Windsor, Mercedes Drummond, Neil McGuinness and Rick Paradise, celebrate news of a Springs Dell Boardwalk back in October last year.

THE Springs Dell Boardwalk project is now in its detailed design phase, with completed drawings expected in the next couple of months.

The project, which will provide walking access and preservation of the Heritage Springs site in Clifton Springs, was successfully awarded funding through the 2018 ‘Pick My Project’ grants program.

The grant was sought by the Drysdale Clifton Springs Curlewis Association, in partnership with City of Greater Geelong and was successful in securing $200,000.

Cr Jim Mason said due to the significant and sensitive nature of the environment where the boardwalk was set to be constructed, the City was required to seek a number of approvals from organisations including Cultural Heritage and Heritage Victoria.

The project also requires a Marine and Coastal Act consent and a Works Authority from Parks Victoria.

Project construction is expected to commence once these approvals are successfully secured.

Mr Mason said it was terrific news for the community when the Drysdale Clifton Springs Curlewis Association was successful in securing the funds for this very exciting project.

“The Dell is a popular spot for visitors of all ages, with significant environmental and heritage importance to our region.

“The new Boardwalk will help protect the valuable coastal environment, including the historic mineral springs, from the impacts of erosion and human foot traffic.

“This will mean the site can be preserved for current and future generations.”
