CITY of Greater Geelong Family Day Care has made history at the Excellence in Family Day Care Awards Gala, with the centre becoming the first Victorian service team to win the National Service of the Year award.

Held in Hobart, the ceremony recognised educators, co-ordinators and services in the family day care sector for delivering quality early childhood education in Australia.

The awards are nationwide, with family day care centres from every corner of the country eligible to receive an accolade as part of the gala.

The Excellence in Family Day Care Awards Gala is the only national awards dedicated to the family day care sector.

The city’s director of community life Robyn Stevens offered her congratulations to all award participants for their “extraordinary contributions” across the community.

“This national award is excellent recognition for our early childhood educators, who do a wonderful job in building the foundations of learning and wellbeing of our region’s children,” she said.

“These awards shine a light on the hard work and dedication of our early childhood educators, the City is incredibly proud to have a fantastic team shaping the minds of the future of Geelong.”

The City of Greater Geelong employs 33 qualified early childhood family day care educators who work from their homes and provide education and care to about 330 children per week.

The awards ceremony took place at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart and was attended by nearly 200 guests.
