WOMEN across the region will have the chance to engage in a forum that focuses on the financial empowerment of women.

The forum to be held on Friday, December 10 from 12pm to 1pm at the Shell Road Pavilion in Ocean Grove will be hosted by Federal Corangamite MP Libby Coker alongside Shadow Minister for Women and Education, Tanya Plibersek.

Financial empowerment will be the theme of the forum and will also include a panel of experts from the finance sector.

These experts will give practical information on how women can secure their futures financially.

“We know that women retire with 42 per cent less super than men and earn less than men during their careers. Women are at a disadvantage because of the gender pay gap,” Ms Coker said.

“Women’s careers also stall when they take career breaks. These factors all contribute to women being vulnerable to poverty and homelessness as they age.

“The pandemic has exacerbated financial distress for women, given they are more likely to be in casual or insecure work.”

Ms Coker encourages as many women as possible to come along to the forum to get some helpful tips and advice and join the discussion.
