COLLEGES from Geelong and Ballarat have joined forces to play off in a community footy event ahead of International Women’s Day that supports their commitment to promoting “Respectful Relationships” at school and in the wider community.

In the Respect Cup, held at GMHBA Stadium yesterday (Tuesday, March 2), St Joseph’s College Geelong played St Patrick’s Ballarat in a game of male football as a curtain-raiser to the female senior match of Sacred Heart Geelong versus Loreto College Ballarat.

St Patrick’s won the curtain-raiser 72-40 and Sacred Heart Geelong the main game 35-24, with the two Ballarat schools having the higher combined score and thus earning the right to lift the Respect Cup.

The concept will be an annual event, with the Ballarat schools taking the lead in spreading these same messages in 2022 and hosting that year’s Respect Cup.

The four schools worked with the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust and Leisure Networks to run the Respect Cup, as well as Times News Group and Morris Finance.
