NEW beach access stairs at Collendina are now in place, replacing a section of track worn down by years of erosion and storm damage.

The Bonnyvale Road upgrade, completed ahead of Easter, included the installation of a more durable staircase while limiting impact on the surrounding dune system.

Barwon Coast Committee of Management chair Peter Farrell said the site required a careful balance between access and environmental protection.

“This upgrade delivers a safer, more resilient access point for the community while carefully managing the impacts on the surrounding dune environment,” he said.

“We know how valued this location is, and this project ensures people can continue to enjoy the coast safely, now and into the future.”

Funded by the Victorian government, the works followed technical assessments to determine a suitable design for the exposed coastal setting.

The new alignment reduces movement through sensitive dune areas while maintaining a clear path to the beach.

Fencing, pathways and surrounding access points were also upgraded.

Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the works ensured the access point remained usable as conditions along the coast changed.

“The Victorian government is proud to support projects like this that improve public access while protecting our coastline,” she said.

“This is a positive outcome for the Bellarine, delivering safer access for the community while caring for our unique coastal environment.”
