Completion of fundraising houses a reason to celebrate

THE Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads celebrated the completion of two houses in the Kingston Estate at the weekend.

The houses, located at 34 Silverwood Parade, were built to raise funds for the Barwon Grove Foundation, a charity associated with the Lions Club, established to help disadvantaged people in the community with housing support.

On Saturday, Lions Club members, members of the Barwon Grove Foundation, and local business supporters of the fundraising project got together to mark the milestone, which started with the donation of a block of land by local developer Kingston Estate.

One house has already sold, and with the sale of the second house, more than $500,000 will have been raised for the foundation.

“Housing affordability is an issue for a number of people struggling to make ends meet in the area served by the Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads, and with the funds raised, help with rental costs will make a big difference to people’s lives,” foundation president Bill Willocks said.
