Connecting job seekers with industry experts

BRIDGING the skills gap with the local economy is a challenge with industries evolving swiftly amid technological advances.

Skilling the Bay will host the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Support Forum at The Gordon East Geelong Campus with the goal of connecting local attendees with industry professionals.

The forum will offer insights into a diverse range of career opportunities available through apprenticeships and traineeships.

Skilling the Bay representative Carley Brennan said these events were crucial in bridging the skills gap within local industries.

“Many people may not realise that 80 per cent of new jobs are accessible via TAFE.

“Apprenticeships and traineeships open doors to many in-demand and well-paid careers in building and construction, advanced manufacturing, automotive, health care, aged care, childcare, business and more.

“As our region continues to grow, so does demand for a skilled workforce.

“This is particularly true as we transition to a clean economy, which requires a new wave of workers to be able to complete the transformation safely and to the highest quality.”

A panel discussion and interactive expo session will take place at the forum, providing a platform for apprentices, employers and industry experts to share experiences and offer guidance.

Kyanne Dunlop is a painting and decorating apprentice at The Gordon and will be a panel member at the forum.

“For newcomers, these forums offer invaluable insights into local industries and connections with mentors who can provide guidance along the way,” she said.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with apprenticeship providers, trainers, group training organisations and employers where they can learn more about various career paths.

The forum will take place on July 31 from 5pm until 7.30pm.
