Conserve and observe with Destination Conservation

February 20, 2019 BY

Help conserve and explore the Great Ocean Road as part of Conservation Australia’s latest program: Destination Conservation Experiences, launching February 25 in Portarlington.

ENVIRONMENTALISTS and nature lovers can now experience the Great Ocean Road (GOR) while undergoing conservation activities as part of Destination Conservation Experiences (DCE).

Chair of Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) David Clark, alongside Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson, will launch the new program in Portarlington at Parks Hall February 25 to coincide with the first GOR tour.

Five-day or multi-week conservation experiences are now available for travelers who want to make a difference at stunning locations across Australia and New Zealand.

You can help protect habitat and conserve incredible and unique wildlife in National Parks and World Heritage Areas, while exploring a variety of natural attractions.

The Great Ocean Road DCE will see participants visit Bells Beach, Erskine Falls, Cape Otway, Tower Hill Bush and Nature Walk; as well as the You Yangs National Park, Twelve Apostles, London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge.

Volunteers experience active, hands-on diverse projects such as marine debris collection, invasive weed removal and tree planting within National Parks, nature sanctuaries and alongside local Landcare networks.

Conservation Volunteers Australia chief executive officer Phil Harrison said participants undergo conservation activities in a variety of coastal, wetland and inland areas.

“From the World Heritage Great Ocean Road in Australia to the Paparoa National Park in Punakaiki, New Zealand, you will have the opportunity to explore places that no other touring groups can offer,” he said.

“Our Destination Conservation Experiences offer a combination of volunteering and tourism, allowing people to explore new sites whilst giving back to the environment and the communities they are staying in.”
