GREATER Geelong has received another Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) refund point.

The new machine is located at the Drysdale Bowling and Croquet Club, making this the 17th refund point for the Greater Geelong region.

TOMRA Cleanaway is the ‘West Zone’ Network Operator for the Victorian Governments CDS, resulting in more than $11.5 million in returns to users to date.

TOMRA Cleanaway chief executive officer James Dorney said his company was excited to have a new CDS Vic point in Drysdale, giving locals another location to drop off their containers for recycling.

“Our machines are quick, convenient, and automated, and able to be seamlessly integrated into retail and community locations.

“The community has shown that when provided with a convenient, accessible, and technology-based container deposit scheme network, they will get involved.”

The scheme commenced on November 1 last year, with Victorian residents recycling eligible drink bottles, cartons, and cans through the collection points for a 10-cent refund per item.

Users are also able to choose a charity or community group to donate the refund amount to.

“Victoria’s container deposit scheme will be the most accessible and convenient in the country, making it easier than ever to recycle here in Greater Geelong and across our state,” Victorian Minister for Environment, Steve Dimopoulos said.

“CDS Vic will maximise the number of cans, bottles and cartons being recycled into new products, while reducing the amount of litter in Victoria by up to half.”

Greater Geelong residents can download the CDS Vic West Zone app to check on their local refund point, verify container eligibility, and to manage and track container refunds.
