COTTAGE by the Sea’s fundraising branch is offering the community the unique opportunity to hear from an Ocean Grove local and her work with the United Nations (UN).

To be held on Friday, July 25, the event will feature Cate Steains, who will deliver a presentation about her work and how the Cottage is creating opportunities for children across Australia.

Cottage by the Sea Queenscliff fundraising branch president Claire Bolster said the event is one of the fundraising activities they hold each year.

“We wanted to involve the rest of the community in learning about one of our residents who has done a lot of work with the United Nations around the world.

“Being a local person, it’s nice to think that she’s able to make such a contribution to an important cause of supporting children and of course our Bellarine Peninsula does have a lot of individuals and organisations that do amazing things for others around the world.

“It also ties in with the fact that the work of the Cottage is about creating opportunities for children who are potentially vulnerable in and around Australia.”

In the past the branch has held similar events including luncheons and high teas with guest speakers. This year it wanted to highlight the individual work of a Bellarine local.

Ms Steains has worked with the UN on children’s support projects across the globe as a former coordinator of humanitarian affairs and a child protection and Australian legal advisor.

The guest speaker will share stories about her work with the United Nations, speaking about the projects she’s been involved with around the world.

Ms Bolster said the branch is inviting all members of the public to the event in the hopes it educates them further.

“We are looking to enable them to broaden their understanding about the work of the United Nations in supporting vulnerable children around the world.

“The fact we have a local person in our midst who is one of those, we thought would be a nice thing to be able to share with our wider Bellarine community.”

The event will be held at Cottage by the Sea, starting with wine and cheese at 5pm.
