Crafty and classic quilts to go on show

THE Geelong Patchwork and Quilters Guild Inc. has announced the return of its annual Members Quilt Exhibition.

THE Geelong Patchwork and Quilters Guild Inc. has announced the return of its annual Members Quilt Exhibition.

More than 100 quilts will be on display.at this year’s edition of the festival, which has the theme “heritage” and will be held in the historic Geelong West Town Hall next month.

The guild has about 100 members who share their joy of creating quilts and inspire each other with their works, and meets monthly in Newcomb.

Visitors to the exhibition can admire the huge variety of quilts, encompassing traditional, modern and art quilts, and vote for their favourite quilt in the Viewer’s Choice award.

The display will also include the Geelong Guild’s Challenge – a judged exhibition of small quilts interpreting the “heritage” theme.

Several traders’ stalls will be selling a variety of quilting essentials.

The members’ trading table will have quality handmade items for sale.

Heights Sewing Centre is supporting the Guild raffle with a selection of prizes, including a Janome sewing machine.

The guild has about 100 members who share their joy of creating quilts and inspire each other with their works.

 

Other supporters of the exhibition are City of Greater Geelong and Bendigo Bank.

The Very Snuggly Quilts team, one of the many charities the Geelong Guild donates to, will be at the exhibition to talk about the Very Snuggly Quilts project and quilt-making techniques.

Starting in 1998 and under the guidance of an official Royal Children’s Hospital Auxillary since 2004, the Very Snuggly Quilts project sees quilts made and donated to patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

National Wool Museum director Padraic Fisher will officially open the exhibition on September 23, with morning tea to be supplied, courtey of the National Wool Museum.

Quilts on show will encompass traditional, modern and art quilts.

 

The Geelong Patchwork and Quilters Guild say they look forward to welcoming the community to the exhibition.

The Members Quilt Exhibition will be held at Geelong West Town Hall, 153 Pakington Street, Geelong West, on September 23 and 24 from 10am-4pm. Entry is $10.
