Crowds roll in for annual ag fair

Geoff Morrison sets off for another tray ride.

RECORD crowd numbers converged in Portarlington at the weekend for 29th Annual Bellarine Agricultural Show.

Held at Portarlington Recreation Reserve on Sunday, one of the highlights was George the Farmer, one of Australia’s most-loved farming characters, as well as the Bellarine Vintage Machinery Group’s featured display, which included international harvesters, tractors, farm equipment and chaff cutting.

Later in the day the wind sprung up to about 60km per hour, so organisers called the event off a little earlier for safety reasons.

“But I don’t think it had a huge effect as most scheduled events had gone ahead which was lucky,” spokesperson Susie Thomas said.
