Cyclist injured in Surf Coast crash
A FEMALE cyclist in her 50s has sustained head injuries after colliding with a car on Tuesday morning on the Surf Coast Highway, Torquay.
The male driver of the vehicle was travelling along Geelong Road when he allegedly attempted to make a U-turn at the Bristol Road intersection and failed to see the oncoming cyclist.
Leading Senior Constable Jason McGowan said they received the call around 10am and closed off the Surf Coast Highway as an ambulance arrived to take the woman to Geelong Hospital.
“I presume as he has performed the U-turn he hasn’t seen the cyclist and as a result they’ve come together and she’s fallen off her bike and sustained her injuries,” Const. McGowan said.
“There was no damage to the vehicle, his details have been obtained and we’ll speak to him at a later time once we know the condition of the cyclist.”
A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were called to the intersection of Surf Coast Highway and Bristol Road, Torquay at 10am.
“One woman in her 50s was taken to University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition with a face injury,” she said.
