Australian comedian Dave Hughes got his first gig at 22 years of age. Now more than 30 years later, he is one of the biggest names in the industry.

From the stages of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Gold Coast Laughs Festival, the Sydney Opera House and more, the comedian has entertained crowds on some big stages.

His next performance will take him to Geelong’s Gold Diggers Arms on Wednesday, October 29.

Owner of Geelong booking agency What’s the Joke John Watts said he was looking forward to welcoming Hughes, often referred to as Hughesy, to the region.

“He’s pretty good at that observational stuff on things that are going around or poking a bit of fun at himself as well.

“I’m sure a lot of his fans are pretty familiar with his style and he doesn’t let anyone leave wondering at each show.”

Joining Hughes for the night are fellow comedians Nathan Chin and Jeremy Dooley, with the three of them all taking a different approach when it comes to their comedy.

Dooley has been touring nationally with his Daddy Cool shows, highlighting the challenges of being a new parent, while Chin is a fast mover in the comedy game and 2024 RAW Comedy finalist.

Watts said the three of them would all bring different experiences to the gig and all came from different backgrounds.

“Hughesy, he’s married with teenage kids, so he talks about some of his life experiences and what’s going on at the moment.

“Dooley, he’s a father with a newborn baby, so he’s talked about the challenges of that; and Nathan Chin, he’s a younger guy who talks about what’s going in in his life in the corporate world.

“They’ve all got a different take on their life experiences, so it will be a good mix.”
