MOTORISTS and cyclists should plan for delays and detours on the Barwon Heads Road over the coming week as works progress day and night on the major duplication project.

Work during the day and night will close all lanes on Barwon Heads Road between Marshalltown Road and Barwarre Road from 7pm tomorrow, Friday October 8 to 6am Sunday October 10.

Night works are planned on October 11 and 12 between Marshalltown and Reserve Road, closing all lanes from 7pm to 6am, and between Reserve and Precinct Road on October 13 and 14, closing all lanes from 7pm to 6am.

“We’re ramping up works on the much-needed Barwon Heads Road Upgrade, with crews onsite installing barriers and completing drainage and road widening works,” Major Roads Projects Victoria program director Tim Price said.

“To allow us to complete this work as safely and efficiently as possible, there will be temporary detours in place at times on Barwon Heads Road from Friday 8 October to Thursday 14 October,” Mr Price said.

“When this vital road project is complete, there will be new lanes, upgraded intersections, new walking and cycling paths and a new bridge over the rail line, providing the community with safer and more reliable journeys.”

When complete, the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade will add four kilometres of new lanes to Barwon Heads Road between Settlement Road and Reserve Road, remove a level crossing at Marshall, upgrade intersections at Settlement Road and Breakwater Road, install new traffic lights at Crows Road, Barwarre Road, Marshalltown Road and Reserve Road and create four kilometres of new shared walking and cycling paths.
