Diversitat delivers across the board

DIVERSITAT celebrated its program’s achievements over the past 12 months during their annual general meeting on November 15.

Chief executive officer Michael Martinez said the night showcased the organisation’s core values of promoting access and equity.

“I think it was a reflection of what Diversitat is all about which is our ethnic communities, our staff and our volunteers,” he said.

“We have really delivered and had quite a bit of success with our settlement programs, our aged support, training, 94.7 The Pulse and Pako Festa.

“I think all of our programs are doing well and I think some of the individual stories we heard last night about individual circumstances is where it really comes home.”

Guest speaker Mark Edwards from Wathaurong Glass discussed the important relationship between Diversitat and the Wathaurong community, a theme of the evening with 2019 ‘The International Year of Indigenous Languages’.

“It’s important that he came along, we think that’s very important, the relationship we have with our indigenous brothers and sisters, the Wathaurong,” Mr Martinez said.

“I think it’s critical to our future that we listen to the voices of indigenous people.”

The night also acknowledged the efforts of Diversitat’s volunteers and staff, with several awards recognising outstanding contribution by volunteers, outstanding achievement and positive achievement for students and Employee of the Year and also anniversary awards for Diversitat staff.
