Donations at Barry Plant help Salvos at Christmas

January 2, 2018 BY

BEING part of the community and supporting people in need is an integral ingredient to creating healthy connected communities.

The local Salvation Army branch has a long history of supporting those less fortunate or doing it a little tough, especially around Christmas.

The dedicated local team at Barry Plant Torquay teamed up with the Salvos to make Christmas a little bit more special for those children who may have otherwise missed out on presents.

Barry Plant’s Paul Wright said that staff wanted to give back to the Torquay community that they live and work in.

“So, in the spirit of Christmas they decided to reach out to Vic Pitman-Jones at the Salvos and offer a helping hand,” Mr Wright said.

“We thought, how do you show gratitude to the community that has given you so much in 2017?

“Vic and ourselves decided to ask the public to donate a gift for small children who are doing it tough this Christmas.

“The good people of Torquay responded overwhelmingly and we’re here today to drop of the donations.

“It was a great success, and we’d like to say a big thank you to all the generous people who kindly donated to our good cause dropping off more than 80 gifts.”

The Salvation Army’s Vic Pitman-Jones said that the generosity of the Barry Plant team at Torquay should be applauded.

“Supporting families doing it tough this time of year is very important to our organisation, and to have the local Barry Plant team partnering with the community to collect so many gifts is a great result,” Mr Pitman-Jones said.

“We will be distributing the presents to local families in need first with any excess going to the broader region.”
