Draft master plan maps coast’s next 15 years
A draft plan that will help shape the future of the Bellarine coastline over the next 15 years has been released for community feedback.
Barwon Coast this week unveiled its draft foreshore master plan, outlining a long-term vision for the care, use and management of the coast while balancing environmental protection, public access and future challenges such as coastal hazards.
The plan identifies three key priorities: putting Country first, creating welcoming and connected access, and leading with care.
Proposed actions include improvements to trail networks and connections, upgraded signage and wayfinding, responses to coastal hazards and changes aimed at improving car parking, pedestrian movement and accessibility.
Barwon Coast Committee of Management chair Peter Farrell said the draft plan had been shaped by extensive community input.
More than 500 people contributed to the development of the draft through community consultation, alongside input from Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, a community reference group, key stakeholders and technical experts.
“This plan has been shaped by the people who know and love this coast, alongside the voices of Traditional Owners and our project partners,” he said.
“It strikes a careful balance – protecting the natural environment while ensuring the community can continue to access and enjoy the coast in a way that respects its unique character.”
Barwon Coast said the plan brings together community aspirations, environmental stewardship and long-term planning to help guide future investment and decision-making along the coastline.
The draft plan is open for public comment, with community members invited to review the document, explore concept plans and provide feedback through an online survey or formal submission.
A series of drop-in information sessions will also be held, allowing residents to speak directly with the project team.
Feedback received during the consultation period will be used to refine the plan before it is finalised.
