A SECOND stage of community engagement has opened as the City of Greater Geelong looks to improve its mountain bike and BMX facilities.

Draft upgrade plans have been released for The Hill Mountain Bike Park in Newtown, Corio’s Stead Park Dirt Jumps and the Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps in Grovedale.

The city is asking mountain bike and BMX riders to share their thoughts about the plans and if they have any further suggestions.

The city says the trail designers, World Trail, are focused on making the three tracks more engaging and challenging for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders.

Proposed features include genuine advanced jumps, improved landscaping and designated beginner and spectator areas.

Council say some of the community’s ideas for the parks did not fit into the budget for this round of renewal but will form part of future stages as funding becomes available.

Cr Eddy Kontelj, chair of the city’s Sports and Recreation portfolio, said construction works would be rolled out over several years and funded through renewal funding, future council budgets and external grants.
