DRYSDALE Family Support is calling on the community to help them keep the doors of their Foodbank open.
Foodbank co-ordinator Jake Hogendoorn said the service was running at “pretty close to the wind” due to the rising cost of living.
He said the number of people coming through the doors has risen 15 per cent on last year and approximately 43 families are coming to use the service each week.
“There are a few factors which have converged to make it pretty tough, including the rising cost of living,” he said.

“We are probably spending $600 to $700 a week on food to add to what we get through donations, Foodbank Victoria and two community gardens.
“We have just noticed our resources are depleting. It’s not just about buying the food, it’s also running the place and keeping the doors open with the cost of power and more.”
The Drysdale Foodbank has been providing support to thousands of families for more than 25 years.
At this point in time, families can access four to five days of non-perishable foods, bread, frozen meat, dairy products, toiletries, pet food and cleaning products.

Any community donations will be vital to this level of commitment continuing into the future.
“Everything has gone up and we are watching our resources disappear. We are sweating on our next lot of grant approvals.
“Any support will help us keep the doors open and provide the stock and resources to meet the needs of our clients.”
Monetary donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
Any food or drink donations can be dropped to 276-290 Jetty Road, Curlewis.
