MORE than 200 volunteers helped to put smiles on dials at the first Disabled Surfing Association (DSA) session of the year at Ocean Grove.

Volunteers assisted close to 80 participants with varying abilities into waves under beautiful sunshine on Sunday.

DSA national secretary Phil Christie said it could not have been much a better start to 2025.

There were plenty of smiles on Sunday.

“Last year we had a lot of factors working against us, but the weekend just gone was just perfect. The sun was beaming down, the waves were beautiful, and it was great all round.

“To have 80 surfers and more than 200 volunteer was a great result. It was a good ratio and everyone got around it.

“It’s now onwards and upwards for the next one.”

Surfers were presented with a medal for their surfing performance.

The next DSA Ocean Grove session will be held on March 2.

Volunteer and surfer registrations are now open.

“We are hoping for the same amount [volunteers], maybe even more, so we can open up more spots for surfers,” Mr Christie said.

“Eighty volunteers make it a nice smooth-running day.”
