ENGINES will rev on the Bellarine next weekend as the Queenscliff Rod Run returns to the region on January 31 to February 2.

Organised by the Geelong Street Rodders, the annual event will include cars from clubs right across Victoria as they show off their prized possessions.

February 1 will see some of the cars head out to the Adventure Park while the others go around the Bellarine before making their way down Hesse Street for the night cruise, running from 5pm until 10pm.

The weekends main event will take place on Sunday, February 2 at Princess Park with the Show and Shine.

Sub-committee member Gary James said the event is a full weekend with the Show and Shine including around 1,000 vehicles of all types.

“Custom classics, hot rods, special interest vehicles and various others, it’s a good family day out.

“We’ve got some new cars, there’s been some new builds, a lot of it is left over from COVID when we were into the lockdowns and there’s still a few being debuted this year and probably for the next couple of years.”

The Show and Shine will run from 10am until 4pm with trade stands and food and drink vendors available throughout the event.

The Rod Run raises money for local charities, including the Lions Club who look after the front gate and donate to their organisations, while the remaining funds are divided around the Geelong and district area.

Mr James said he hopes those heading along get a lot of enjoyment out of the event.

“We try to encourage the younger generation to come take a bit of a step up, because it’s getting to be a bit of a dying sport.

“It’s just showing the younger generation responsibility about looking after vehicles, keep them road worthy and treat them right, not driving stupid on the road.”
