Epworth promotes veterans’ health

October 11, 2018 BY

The head chefs from Luson Aged Care and Epworth Geelong took part in an Anzac biscuit bake-off.

A RECENT morning tea at Epworth Geelong promoted the good health and wellbeing of veterans and ex-servicepeople from across the Geelong region.

The event at the Waurn Ponds private hospital was supported by the Department of Veterans Affairs and was held as part of Veterans’ Health Week, which focused on nutrition.

Epworth Geelong veterans liaison Susie Thomas said highlighting the importance of improving and maintaining good health was something the hospital took very seriously, and so too did Luson Aged Care.

“Epworth Geelong has invested in this area with our restaurant kitchen or room service model.

“Patients order their meals when they feel like eating between 7am and 9pm and our chefs prepare and cook fresh and healthy meals to order. Ward hosts deliver to the patients and support them with their ordering.

“Veteran patients from Luson aged care facilities also tell me how great the food is for them at Luson when they come and stay at EG.”

The morning tea also featured an Anzac biscuit bake-off between Epworth Geelong head chef Luiz and Luson head chef Kelly, using a dietician-approved recipe from the Country Women’s Association and determined by a vote from the crowd.
