Escape into the Otways at Run Forrest
THE sixth annual Run Forrest, to be held next weekend, offers runners the most picturesque trails in Australia.
The 2018 edition of the event will again include the very popular 6km Kids Run circuit.
Staged in the hinterland township of Forrest, nestled in the heart of the Otway Ranges, Run Forrest will showcase the region’s world class trails and breathtaking natural beauty – undulating hills, flowing rivers, dense fern gullies and the cool, fresh air of the Otway Ranges.
Although Run Forrest is an event, more than anything it is an adventure and an escape, giving runners the freedom to get access to trails that they may never have heard of.
Breathe the beauty of the Otways, leave the stopwatch at home and enjoy the freedom of Run Forrest.
Race director Mick Sheehan said Run Forrest competitors had a mix of backgrounds from pure road runner, adventure racer and triathletes to the complete beginner. “This gives the event a unique balance and feel.”
Staged on the network of trails usually only used by mountain bikers, the challenging course showcases the best of the Forrest and the Otways via 21km (half marathon) and 10km and 6km (plus the 6km Kids Run) of single trail courses surrounding Lake Elizabeth and Forrest.
The event is organised by Torquay-based Southern Exposure and has become one of its most popular annual events, drawing participants from across Victoria, interstate and overseas.
Mr Sheehan said Run Forrest was a big economic boost for the Otways region in the off-peak season, drawing an influx of visitors to the area over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend to enjoy the naturebased event.
Run Forrest begins at Barwon River Reserve on June 10 at 7.30am and runs until 2pm.
