BOOM Gallery toasted Rowena Martinich’s latest collection of work and the opening of her new exhibition with a celebration event last week.

The exhibition, Summer Electra, marks the abstract artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.

The collection features a series of vibrant works comprising large, multicoloured brushstrokes, splashes of paint and hazes of spray.

“My practice is very much about going into the studio and painting and just seeing what comes of that process,” Martinich said.

“I’m a colourist and at the end of the day, that’s what my work is all about: emoting the viewer through the use of colour and just creating that high impact.

“They’re purely abstract in their creation, but I feel like people will give their own dialogue to the work.”

The exhibition is housed in the Big Boom extension of Boom Gallery and will run until March 17.

Big Boom is at 5 Rutland Street, Newtown and is open 10am-3pm, Monday-Saturday.
