Farmers can buy permits to carry out burns
FARMERS across the City of Greater Geelong are now able to secure strict permits to carry out essential burns.
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) have advised that Schedule 13 permits can be issued as of March 25 to allow for fine fuels to be burnt (such as grass, stubble and weeds).
The CFA burn permits come with a strict list of conditions, including a prohibition on their use on a day of Total Fire Ban.
Fire danger period restrictions remain in force until May 1. No fires can be lit during this time without a CFA permit.
Residents are advised of the potential for noticeable amounts of smoke in the air through rural areas of the City of Greater Geelong.
People with breathing difficulties should remain indoors and keep windows closed while nearby burning operations are underway.
Any fire causing an issue should be reported to 000.
The failure to comply with any condition contained in a permit is an offence under the law and penalties will apply for non-compliance.
