Feed Geelong Appeal to help fight hunger in our community

The Give Where You Live Foundation is calling on the community to get behind the 2025 Feed Geelong Appeal, which runs from October 13-19, to help make sure nobody goes hungry.
THIS October, the Give Where You Live Foundation is calling on the community to get behind the 2025 Feed Geelong Appeal to help make sure nobody goes hungry.
Latest data from the foundation shows the ongoing cost-of-living crisis is significantly increasing the number of people seeking food relief throughout the Geelong region.
According to Victorian Population Health Survey, 14 per cent of Barwon residents went without food and couldn’t afford to buy more.
Give Where You Live Foundation chief executive Zac Lewis stressed the importance of this year’s Feed Geelong Appeal in addressing the current demand for food relief in the region.
“This October the Give Where You Live Foundation will be raising vital funds to help address food insecurity across the G21 region through our annual Feed Geelong Appeal. Now more than ever we need the full support of our community to help make sure nobody goes hungry. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to get behind the Appeal, which runs from 13-19 October.”
“We know that people across our region are experiencing significantly higher levels of food insecurity compared to the Victorian average. Making a donation during the Feed Geelong Appeal means that together, we can help feed our community.”
The Give Where You Live Foundation’s community partner organisations are also reporting unprecedented demand.
“With the rising cost-of-living, many of our community partners are seeing huge increases in the number of people seeking support. In fact, we know through our latest Food for Thought research report that 90 per cent of food relief agencies in the region have seen an increase in demand,” Mr Lewis said.
The foundation’s Food for Thought research report, released in late 2023, identified that the key drivers of food insecurity include cost-of-living pressures, low income, and unemployment.
Supporting the 2025 Feed Geelong Appeal are several corporate partners who have joined the foundation in helping to feed Geelong.
“We’d like to thank all of our 2025 Feed Geelong Appeal partners, including Times News Group, Goop Digital, The Gordon, GSC Finance, Australian Tyre Traders, Associated Cold Tread Tyres, Bay 93.9 and K Rock 95.5, for helping fight hunger in our community,” Mr Lewis added.
The community can get involved and support the Feed Geelong Appeal by signing up to the Lunch Money Challenge, donating what they would normally spend on lunch to the appeal, or join two special dining experiences: The Feed Geelong x Common Ground Project Lunch and Feed Geelong x Wasted by Feed Me Dinner. Both events bring people together through great food and a shared commitment to tackling food insecurity in our region.
