Feed Geelong grants support vital food relief

THE Give Where You Live Foundation has announced the recipients of grants funded by money raised through last month’s Feed Geelong Appeal. The Feed Geelong (Small) Grants are going to 15 organisations working within Geelong’s emergency food relief system.

This year’s recipients include:

• 3216 Connect Inc – to provide food assistance, along with other practical advice/counselling assistance, to single parents, women fleeing domestic violence, homeless persons, refugees and others facing economic hardship

• Bellarine Living And Learning Centre – to support participants to prepare nutritious and wholesome meals through cooking classes, meal preparation and access to appropriate food

• Christ Church Community Meals Program to improve the health of some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our community by providing consistent access to milk

• Community Hub – to provide unobtrusive dignified access to fresh, nutritious food for people at risk, disadvantaged or in need through the provision of food assistance

• Eat Up – to support vulnerable children to take advantage of learning opportunities and succeed in education by ensuring that they have access to nutritionally adequate lunches while at school.

• Geelong Food Relief Centre – to support improved access to nutritious food, particularly pre-prepared frozen meals, by increasing capacity to store frozen meals in a new freezer

• Lazarus Community Centre – to ensure access to regular, fresh, high quality, nutritious meals and improve community connections by providing community meals in a shared setting

• Onecare Geelong – to ensure the provision of nutritious, culturally appropriate and diverse foods to the participants in the Community Meal and ‘English Around The Table ‘Meal programs.

• SalvoConnect – To assist those who are struggling with food insecurity during the Christmas/New Year period when many services are closed by providing access to fresh food and pantry items.

• Uniting – to purchasing nutritious and culturally appropriate food for Uniting Barwon Norlane, Grovedale and Winchelsea emergency food programs, and upgrading the washing and preparation area for fresh fruit and vegetables in the Uniting Barwon food room at Grovedale

• Wesley Church – to allow vulnerable people in Geelong who are seeking asylum, or who have only temporary protection in Australia, to access culturally appropriate fresh food. For more information on Feed Geelong, head to feedgeelong.org.au.
