Community consultation continues for Breamlea General Store

January 30, 2024 BY

BARWON Coast is running an ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) process to encourage those interested in operating the Breamlea General Store to share their vision, capability and experience.

The EOI process will run until February 26 and ensure a thorough exploration of sustainable operating models for the Breamlea General Store.

Barwon Coast sought community feedback in December 2023 on community preferences for service and product provision at the popular food outlet.

Barwon Coast has been the land managers of the Breamlea Caravan Park and General Store for two years, taking over from the City of Greater Geelong in 2022.

Acting chief executive officer Paul Gangell said the Breamlea General Store was a valued local service, but it had recently been operating at a significant financial loss.

“Breamlea is extraordinary in the best way – the combination of significance to Wadawurrung People, an incredible natural environment, close-knit local community and passionate camping community makes it unique and very, very special.

“Community and camper input will help inform and guide us as we work to determine the best – and most financially sustainable – service model for the General Store.

“Breamlea is a very important part of our phenomenal stretch of coastline, and caring for both coast and community is our goal.”

The final consultation phase will follow the close of the EOI process, and involve bringing community and camper Focus Groups together to discuss and provide feedback around potential options for the future of the store.
