Fencing provides safer walk along popular trail

A SAFER walk awaits locals and visitors along the popular trail between the Point Lonsdale pier and the Rip View carpark.

The Borough of Queenscliffe has engaged a local contractor to construct of 40 metres of new timber fencing along the picturesque coastal trail, which is now complete.

The new fence is the first stage of planned safety improvement works in the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse heritage area.

Council considered the style of fencing and chose a natural timber finish to complement the character of the area.

Borough of Queenscliffe mayor Cr Ross Ebbels said the design and being able to boost the local economy were important in delivering the project.

“I know from speaking to a lot of residents that when it comes to council’s work, the details count,” Cr Ebbels said.

“That’s why we’re investing in new fencing on walking trails in Point Lonsdale that’s not just safe, but has a classic timber style that fits in seamlessly with the heritage character of the area.

“We always look for opportunities to support local businesses, and we’re lucky to have local fencers here in the borough that complete such outstanding work.

“Hiring locals helps us invest in the community in two ways – by supporting local jobs, and building new infrastructure that helps residents get around safely.”

More fencing along walking trails will be completed during this financial year, with a further 60 metres of fence of similar design funded in the borough’s annual budget for improving beach access infrastructure.
