WHEN you see two blokes driving slowly peering out the windscreen, the passenger with a camera, it looks… odd.
Intrepid photographer Elizabeth Turner kept them in sight, pulled up behind them when they stopped and opened their vehicle door.
“Are you here with Fight MND?” the driver was asked.
Surprised anyone knew he happily said “Yes” and agreed to be photographed.
Geoff Fary, an Ambassador for Fight MND, had told the intrepid photographer that a representative would be in Portarlington to take some videos and photos in preparation for when Daniher’s Drive comes to town in October.
Daniher’s Drive, named after footy legend Neale Daniher, is a major fund raiser to find a cure for Motor Neuron Disease.
Geoff said it was a real privilege to have Portarlington as the first stop in this year’s drive.
The stop in Portarlington is Thursday October 10.
It is also the day Geoff’s late wife Monica Hayes, a champion for community participation, would have celebrated her birthday.
Sadly, Monica succumbed to Motor Neuron Disease three years ago.
Geoff, his and Monica’s son Sam, Monica’s brother Bernard and Sam’s mate Marcus will again hit the road as Team Monica Hayes and be one of the 100 cars on Daniher’s Drive.
“I encourage everyone to come to Portarlington on Thursday October 10 and show their support for this incredible initiative,” Geoff said.
“Research needs money… all the volunteers behind the wheel on Daniher’s Drive are committed to raising funds to find a cure.”
