Film night to raise funds for historical society
THE North Bellarine Film Festival will use the silver screen to help its friends in the Bellarine Historical Society raise vital funds.
The two Bellarine organisations will jointly present a screening of 2000 comedy film Best In Show as a fundraiser for the society.
Best In Show is a mockumentary co-written by and starring Christopher Guest (Saturday Night Live, This is Spinal Tap) and Eugene Levy (Schitt’s Creek, American Pie).
The film’s ensemble cast includes Catherine O’Hara, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, John Michael Higgins and Michael McKean.
It chronicles a group of dog owners and their pampered pooches as they prepare to compete in the greatest event of their lives – the Mayflower Dog Show.
The tension is palpable, the excitement is mounting, and the heady scent of competition is in the air.
Best In Show is a behind-the-scenes take on the highly competitive and cut-throat world of dog shows seen through the eyes of these ruthless dog owners.
Both organisations say every dog owner and dog lover in the room will be cringing in horror and delight.
“The North Bellarine Film Festival is happy to support the Bellarine Historical Society, which has an important role in documenting and educating residents and visitors about the region’s history and cultural identity,” Festival president Bill Lussier said.
“If you love Christoper Guest and Eugene Levy’s previous works like This is Spinal Tap and Schitt’s Creek, you will love this brutal and hilariously funny satire of dog shows and the people who compete in them.”
The North Bellarine Film Festival is held each November at the Parks Hall in Portarlington.
The Bellarine Historical Society was established in 1977 and is located in the old Bellarine Court House on High Street, Drysdale, which houses a vast collection of items and documents from the region’s past.
Best In Show will be screened at the Indented Head Community Hall, opposite 326 The Esplanade, Indented Head, on July 14 at 2pm.
Tickets are $20, which includes light refreshments, and are available at trybooking.com/CSIDA or at the door, subject to availability.
