OCEAN Grove Coastcare is hosting another film event next week, following its well-attended screening of Green Southern Reef earlier this year.

The group is inviting the community to a special screening of Melbourne Down Under.

The captivating natural history documentary unveils the hidden wonders of Port Phillip Bay that few people are aware of.

Meet charismatic marine mammals and deadly jet-powered jewels, and witness one of the world’s most spectacular marine migrations.

As seen in the documentary, more than 80 per cent of the marine life found in Port Phillip Bay is found nowhere else on earth.

Joining the evening will be Deakin University honours student Louise Cairney, whose passion for marine biology centres on tackling marine debris and exploring sustainable seaweed cultivation.

Ms Carney will share the research she is now carrying out at the Queenscliff Marine Science Station to find a suitable, natural, biodegradable alternative to using plastic in seaweed farming.

Ocean Grove Coastcare says the event is a great opportunity to learn, engage, and be inspired by the beauty and importance of local marine ecosystems.

The Melbourne Down Under screening will be held at the Bellarine Training and Community Hub, 1 John Dory Drive, Ocean Grove on Thursday, August 15 from 7pm to 8.30pm. Light refreshments available from 6.45pm.

Attendance is free but donations welcome. Numbers are limited, so bookings are preferred through Trybooking at trybooking.com/events/landing/1264545
