Fire under control at Cunningham Pier

FIRE Rescue Victoria has responded to stop a fire at Cunningham Pier in Geelong earlier this morning (Friday, July 11).

Emergency services were called to the pier just before daylight this morning with reports of flames under a bridge.

Firefighters arrived on the scene after four minutes to fight the incident, and took close to two and a half hours to bring the fire under control.

The fire was deemed safe just after 9am.

“At 6.47am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident at Cunningham Pier, Geelong after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported hearing an explosion and seeing flames under a bridge,” an FRV spokesperson said.

“Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find a fire under a bridge

“FRV’s specialist fireboat was deployed to assist in the response.

“Victoria Police and the power company were also on scene.”
