The Springdale Neighbourhood Centre in Drysdale is celebrating Harmony Week on March 20, and the men’s cooking class (pictured with facilitator Barbara Hudson) will help prepare food.

DRYSDALE’S SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre is embracing diversity as part of national Harmony Week (March 15-21) and is inviting residents to come and join in the March 20 celebrations.

SpringDale’s Agata Commisso said the Friday evening event, starting at 5pm, will showcase the region’s “strong spirit” of inclusiveness.

“We want to celebrate Harmony Week and show a sense of belonging for everyone. Our event is to remind the community why our cultural diversity is one of our area’s greatest assets and we are stronger because of it,” Ms Commisso said.

“There will be music, homemade international food and time to make new friends. It will be great for everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, to come along and have fun and appreciate that our differences make our community a great place to live.”

Barbara Hudson, who facilitates the Friday men’s cooking class, said SpringDale was a wonderful place for the community to make new connections.

“A lot of the men that come along are by themselves for the first time. It’s the first time they’re learning how to cook and use different equipment and recipes,” Ms Hudson said.

“It’s also an excellent opportunity for them to surround themselves with others in a similar situation. They try the recipes they learn at home and say how helpful they find the class.”

Ms Commisso said they would be sharing photos from their Harmony Week celebrations across social media using the tags #harmonyweek and #everyonebelongs.
