THE Give Where You Live Foundation celebrated diversity on Friday by being part of ‘Wear it Purple Day’ to support young people who identify as sexuality or gender diverse.

Wear it Purple is a student run, not-for-profit organisation that exists to support young people and to promote the message ‘You have the right to be proud of who you are’.

The organisation aims to raise awareness about issues faced by young people and the need to eradicate bullying based on sexuality and gender diversity every day.

In supporting the cause, GWYLF joined forces with Wear it Purple to support everyone’s right to be proud of who they are and to feel empowered by feeling like they can be themselves.

According to GWYLF, they hoped their support would convey to young people that they are loved, accepted and that there is a place for them to feel safe, included and empowered in society.

Give Where You Live Foundation CEO Bill Mithen said the celebration was a fantastic way of championing diversity and promoting messages around individuality.

“On Wear It Purple Day the Give Where You Live Foundation team proudly wore purple to celebrate diversity and show support to young people from our LGBTQIA+ community,” Mr Mithen said.

“In the Geelong community, the Foundation provides funding to a range of local organisations including Wellways Australia, who was part of our 2022 Pitch Up Geelong live crowdfunding event.

“Wellways successfully raised over $30,000 to create programs and deliver much-needed community connection throughout the wider Geelong region to improve mental health and social connection for the LGBTQIA+ community.”

The Give Where You Live Foundation is committed to upholding values around diversity and look forward to continuing to be a voice of equality in the community.
