Fresh food for all at Surfside’s fabulous fair

November 1, 2018 BY

The Fresh Food Fair is Surfside Primary’s major fundraiser for the year.

SURFSIDE Primary School will light up the night when they hold their annual twilight Fresh Food Fair tomorrow (Friday) night.

On November 2 from 3.15pm, the grounds of the school in Ocean Grove will be transformed into a festival of light, colour, food, live music and celebration.

On the McCout Stage there will be live music by Mr Murphy’s band, Gabrielle Costa, Liz Powell, Sam Hanson, Mark Huglin and the Rouse Band.

On the oval there will be a vintage car display, carnival rides – including Surfside pupils’ favourite The Cha Cha – as well as the Music Trip, a jumping castle, Cup and Saucer and a petting zoo.

There will be plenty of food available, all made by the Surfside pupils and their families. Activities and classroom stalls include White Elephant, Silent Auction, Lucky Jars, Face Painting, Plaster Fun, cupcake decorating and more, as well as a great food selection of calamari, pastries, curries, barbecue, cakes, and plenty of treats.

The Fresh Food Fair is the school’s major fundraising event for the year, with proceeds supporting their Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The school’s purpose built commercial kitchen and award winning garden give Surfside pupils the opportunity to gain hands on cooking experience.

“Our Kitchen Garden program is part of who we are at Surfside Primary School,” Mr Huglin said.

“The students learn about cooking, healthy eating and gardening as well as team work, problem solving and creativity. It’s an integral part of the education experience at the school.”

“The Fresh Food Fair is a spectacular celebration of our kitchen garden program, as well as a big fundraising event to ensure we can continue it in 2019 and beyond.”

The wider community is invited to attend the Fresh Food Fair, with Mr Huglin emphasising that the fair isn’t just for Surfside Primary School families, but for all to enjoy.

“We welcome the whole community to our event. I’m sure everyone will enjoy eating some delicious food, wandering around our garden and market stalls, listening to live music, soaking up the atmosphere, participating in class activities or riding the carnival rides. It’s going to be our biggest and best fair yet.”
