OCEAN Grove Primary School’s popular Apple Fair is back and ready to put a three-year COVID-hiatus behind it!

The school fundraiser will return on October 15 and for the first time in its 26-year history be run by parent volunteers.

The event is the biggest social event on the OGPS calendar, with all funds raised to go towards building a new outdoor classroom for students and teachers.

The fair will host an amazing variety of food to whet the appetite, entertainment from some of the region’s local favourites such as Kim Cooper, The Piano Bar and Good Faces for Radio and also feature plenty of fun amusements and activities for all ages.

Event co-organiser and school parents and friends club president Georgia Fiske said the team couldn’t wait to bring back the historic tradition.

“The staff have been a great support in handing over the reins to us and we have been blown away from all the support we have received from our school community in the lead up to this event, as well as the 200+ volunteers required on the day of the event.

“It’s the first fair since 2020, so it’s incredibly exciting to be bringing it back!

“Back in the 1800’s the school was an apple orchard. It’s quite an old school, so the name I guess pays tribute to its history.

“Some of our committee members, their parents actually started the apple fair!

“There’s quite an invested interest in making it a big community event and bringing everyone together which is what we are all about.”

“Overall, we hope to raise about $35,000.”

Mrs Fiske said My Bellarine kitchen will be hand-making toffee apples on the day and there will also be apple fairy floss to embrace the apple theme.

“It’ll have a country sort of feel.

“Our mascot, Pip the Apple will also be there for people to meet and take their photos with.

“There will be other apple activities and a bake sale which will also lend itself to the theme.”

The Apple Fair will kick off with a welcome to country from Traditional Owner Corrina Eccles and school leaders at 10am.
