Funding boost protects surf club from the sun

February 1, 2018 BY

POINT Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club has received a funding injection of $2,500 from Barwon Water for a new beach sun shelter.

The beach shelter was obtained through Barwon Water’s surf lifesaving sponsorship program, which has contributed $100,000 towards local surf lifesaving clubs across the region since 2006.

Barwon Water provides a $2,500 grant to regional clubs on a rotational basis for essential equipment, and Point Lonsdale was one of four clubs offered a grant this year, with Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, and Bancoora also eligible.

PLSLSC captain Charlie Pitney said the funds had been put to good use.

“The new sun shelter has already been great value to us this summer, and we hope to get much more use out of it throughout the year.”

Barwon Water general manager of customers and community Jo Murdoch said Barwon Water was proud of its long association with the region’s surf lifesaving movement.

“Our surf lifesaving clubs are a vital part of our community, helping visitors to local beaches have a safe and enjoyable experience.

“At Barwon Water, we are very pleased to be able to help them through our community sponsorship program.”

Looking forward to 2018/19, Anglesea, Fairhaven, Jan Juc and Torquay Surf Life Saving Clubs are set to receive $2,500 each for new equipment.
