MORE Victorians will have access to free financial counselling, with 16 community organisations sharing $15 million in new state funding.

The program will help residents facing rental or mortgage stress by expanding access to financial counsellors and support services.

Consumer Affairs Minister Nick Staikos said the funding would help families manage rising living costs.

“We know families are doing it tough. That is why we are providing more support to Victorians under pressure, to help get their finances back on track,” Staikos said.

The program supported more than 23,000 people across Victoria last year, including over 4,100 affected by family violence.

Residents can find their nearest financial counselling provider by contacting the National Debt Helpline at ndh.org.au or phoning 1800 007 007.
